SUMMER 2024 | 53 BOULDER REPORT Congratulations to the Class of 2023! David Pawlick, #12803 Plenty of rain, muddy trails, and wildfire smoke contributed to the lowest number of new 46ers since 2016. Despite some of those challenging conditions, the official list of people that have climbed all 46 high peaks grew by 726 in 2023. Within the 2023 Finishing Class & Sketches and in the following, you'll find some of the names, faces, and stories for the Class of 2023. Jeff Durocher #15295 and Kyle McCabe #15491 met when they were 13 years old, and 12 years later, they climbed Cascade for their first high peak. Over the next seven or eight years, both continued their 46er Number Name City/State Finishing Peak Date Finished 46er quest, sometimes together, and other times they had different hiking partners. When they both got to 34 peaks, they compared notes and found the same 12 peaks on their todo lists and agreed that they would be together for those hikes. Eleven years after their Cascade hike, they reached Iroquois for summit number 46. When COVID shut down almost all other activities, Cheryl Wise #14978 seized the opportunity to take up hiking with her daughters, Carly #14976 and Rena. They quickly caught the bug, and as soon as they finished one hike, they excitedly started planning the next adventure.
