The same holds true for the 46er organization; we need many volunteers to assist us and they are highlighted here." Thank you for your service! We would like to welcome the following new volunteers. Thank you each for stepping forward! Barry Needleman #1989W has joined our By-Laws Update Committee. Barry says, “It's been my intention to get involved with the 46ers for quite some time. I understand how important volunteers are in organizations like this. I decided to do it now because 2024 is the 40th anniversary of my first round. It felt like an appropriate way to mark the occasion.” Mandy Applin #9142 has joined our 2025 100 Year Anniversary Celebration Committee. Mandy says she stepped forward because she is “returning to volunteer in the spirit of continuing the traditions of the 46er organization and to help bring together the very special group of current and aspiring 46ers who find their joy hiking in the beautiful Adirondacks and those who are committed to stewardship of the High Peaks.” Jeff Klein #13752 has joined our 2025 100 Year Anniversary Celebration Committee. Jeff says this about why he stepped up: “One of my very first memories as a child was a vacation I went on with my family to the Adirondacks. I have been in love with the mountains ever since. I started going there for my own vacations as an adult after I got out of the Navy in 1990. I climbed Mt. Marcy for my first high peak in 1996 and was hooked! I spent the next 25 years, 2 months, and 19 days in pursuit of becoming a 46er, finally summiting Rocky Peak Ridge for my 46th on 10/2/21. During those 25 years, we took many vacations all over the Adirondacks and I climbed many smaller peaks and many of the high peaks multiple times while hiking with my own 3 kids in their pursuit of the 46. Along the way, I hiked with 21 different hiking partners and introduced 10 kids to the high peaks. More satisfying than finishing my 46 was hiking with my son for all of his 46 and being with him for his finish on 9/4/22 at 12 years old. The mountains have given me so much and I feel like I owe even more. Being part of this committee is one small way for me to give back to the mountains I love.” Pete LeRoy #5747 is our new Assistant Correspondent Chair. Pete stepped up to lend a hand because “the Adirondack Mountains are my favorite place in the world. I've been going there ever since I was very young, and I still try to make it there with my family even now that I live in Oregon. My favorite thing to do in the ADKs is climbing 46er peaks. I climbed my first peak, Mt. Colden, with my Dad and my two sisters when I was 10, and I never stopped! I wanted to help out with the 46ers because I love the 46er tradition and wanted to help with the club in any way that I could.” Janet Thomas #10198 is our new Merchandise Chair. Janet is taking over the position from David Freeman and we are very grateful to David for his work in this role as well as for his assistance during the transition.
